Job Summary

The University of St. Thomas, Dining Services Department, is accepting applications for a Cook in The View, in the Anderson Student Center.

The position is full-time, 9 month, benefit eligible positions. The position will have flexible hours and work week night and weekend hours.

Responsibilities include: daily preparation of food item in the Student Dining Room, Catering, Pantry, and other stations or areas of the kitchen; setting up stations according to guidelines; preparing all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner; following recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by management; restocking all items as needed; cleaning and maintaining station in practicing good safety, sanitation, and organization skills; assisting with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all other storage areas; and performing additional responsibilities as requested by the Chef, Sous Chef(s) or Kitchen Manager(s) at any time.

Qualifications

Equivalent to a High School diploma and two years of experience in large-scale institutional food preparation and high-volume cooking environment.

The successful candidate will have strong organization skills; ability to make ad-hoc decisions; is a self-starter who can work in a fast pace environment; experienced in operating, cleaning and performing minor maintenance to large institutional food preparation and cooking equipment; as well as previous experience with large quantity and events. They will also have the ability to make accurate arithmetic calculations; be able to read, understand and follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and will be able to contribute effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
