Coordinator Perinatal Bereavement Program –
  • M. Steven Piver Center for Women’s Health and Wellness (Sisters of Charity Hospital) : The bereavement professional works within a healthcare environment to help to facilitate care of patient/family experiencing a pregnancy loss or infant death including those presenting at the ED at Sisters and St. Joseph Campus. As Coordinator, this professional is responsible for the quality care of families who are grieving the loss of their baby. To fulfill this responsibility, the Footprints on the Heart Perinatal Bereavement Coordinator functions as a practitioner, educator, and consultant to physicians and staff nurses on the units, as well as the community. This role provides follow-up care to families experiencing perinatal loss via phone contact, e-mail, and personal meetings. Facilitation of support groups and planning of memorial services is also a requirement of this position.

    REPORTS TO : OB/GYN Department Chief; Director Maternal Child Services

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities , however, this position allows for the monitoring of student nurses, social work interns, and mental health interns for the purpose of expanding knowledge of perinatal bereavement.

    SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (minimum)

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    · BS in Nursing, Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling required
    · MS in Nursing, Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling preferred
    · Certified RTS Bereavement Training or equivalent course of study required within two years.
    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    · One year of prior experience in Perinatal Bereavement strongly preferred
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY:
    · Demonstrated clinical competence
    · Strong written and verbal communication skills
    · Excellent interpersonal skills
    · Strong organizational skills.
