The UNIX Systems Engineer is
responsible for overall maintenance and administration of UNIX systems
supported by the DCO CPS Support team. This position is for a senior technical
expert in UNIX systems, implementation and service management within
Information Technology. This position
involves the following responsibilities and requirements.

Responsibilities:
Develop and manage server, storage and application configurations,
implementations in various projects and business areas. Evaluate, recommend and
implement hardware and software for infrastructure. Sustain a high rate of
workflow and work on multiple projects.

Perform hardware setup, software installation/configuration and coordinate
and manage the installation/configuration and the day-to-day administration of
UNIX operating systems (e.g. Solaris and Red Hat Linux, Oracle Linux based
environments) and related services (e.g. SSH, DNS, NFS, LDAP) as well as
applications developed in house and by third party vendors.

Perform production operations support including checking daily
logs, backup/recovery procedures, disaster recovery, and periodic maintenance.
Interaction with Vendor Support.

Develops and maintains shell scripts (e.g. Korn, C, Bash, PERL) to
automate systems and application support processes and enhance systems
functionality. Documentation of work.

Perform on-going performance and operations management to ensure
the smooth operation and overall efficiency of the server environment. This
includes upgrades, patching, managing and monitoring system and application
backups, performance monitoring and tuning and the use of notification tools. Implement
and test disaster recovery mechanisms.

Analyze and resolve problems associated with server hardware and
applications software and actively seeks, diagnoses, and reports upon those
problems to management.

Design, implementation and management of highly available and
scalable systems that provide maximum uptime and throughput at the most
efficient levels.

Perform on-call and other duties related to those enumerated above
which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position and which
supports our 24x7x365 operations.

Gather metrics and monitor systems at all levels including low
level system calls to user space applications to ensure that Service Level
Agreements (SLA) are being met.

Qualifications

Requirements:
Essential

Technical expertise in UNIX (Solaris, HPUX, BSD) & Linux (RHEL,
Suse, Oracle Linux) Operating System and related software technologies with at
least 5 years of experience as a Senior UNIX Engineer.

Experience with Enterprise class server & peripheral hardware
from HP, Oracle/Sun and HP Blade systems.

Thorough knowledge of network concepts and technology including
TCP/IP protocols, high availability system design, Web hosting or database
management.

Experience with system administration tasks such as setting up
Solaris jump start server, managing UNIX accounts, NFS, VxFS, ZFS, NIS, DNS, Sendmail,
Packaging, Patching, LDAP & UNIX to Active directory integration, system
capacity sizing and performance tuning.

Experience with Cluster
Servers (Symantec, Oracle), Volume Manager and File System, configuring and
management of enterprise-class disk arrays, particularly EMC Clariion and DMX
and V series using EMC Power Path and OS native multi path software.

Experience with writing and debugging shell, Perl and/or Python
scripts for systems administration, Virtualization using Solaris Zones, LDOMs
and VMware.

Very good writing and speaking skills in expressing general and
technical ideas and in regularly documenting work. Technically detail oriented
in handling systems & support.

Ability to share knowledge and work in teams with members of
various functions.

Customer focused, ethical & business oriented professional.

To be available for on-call rotation support and 24x7 on demand availability
via email & phone for problem management situations outside of normal work hours.

ITIL Certified & HP Service Manager

Certifications: Solaris, Linux, HP blade systems
