The primary purpose of this job is to maintain order and supervise inmates in the Food Service Center. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: insure inmate count of the institution is maintained, maintain security of the facility, perform regular inspections, insure institution is clean and sanitary, insure tools and chemicals are properly controlled, provide leadership and supervision over inmates, directing the unloading of and inspection of food supplies delivered to the facility, ensure correct inventory, observe facility to prohibit contraband from entering, assist in organizing inmate work in the Food Services operational area, and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualified applicants must possess the following:
1. High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED),

2. Valid Driver’s License,

3. Have U.S. Citizenship,

4. Be at Least 18 Years of Age, and

5. Have No Felony Convictions.

One year of correctional officer or related experience is preferred. Institutional food service or related experience is preferred. Requires the ability to meet current certification requirements set forth in the Georgia Basic Correctional Officer Training program and obtain BCOT Certification in Corrections within twelve months of hire date. This merit system position requires that the employee satisfactorily complete a probationary period. This position is a safety sensitive position; therefore, it will be included in the random drug and alcohol testing as referred to in the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance. This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager. The position requires a twelve-month probationary period.

WORK SCHEDULE: 12-hour rotating shift. May have to work religious holidays.

Below are qualifications that may entitle you to salary above the annual entry rate (max of $2,400):

2 years of active military service - $600

3 years of active military service - $900

4 years of active military service - $1,200

Possess the Georgia Basic Correctional Officer Certification prior to employment - $1,200

Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited college/technical school or 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours - $1,200

College Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college/university - $2,400
