Contributes to the agency's public safety mission by directing ongoing security operations in an institutional setting. Coordinates and reviews the work of security supervisors on all shifts to ensure a safe, secure and productive environment. Leads, develops, counsels and disciplines staff. Conducts periodic inspections to ensure compliance with security post audit, policies and procedures governing all aspects of institutional operations. Assists the Warden and Assistant Warden in long-term planning, and development of security and contingency plans. Interacts with institutional, regional, divisional and departmental management, staff, visitors, offenders and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Drivers License. DCJS Certification. Progressively responsible experience in corrections or law enforcement. Comprehensive knowledge of VADOC policies, procedures and practices. Extensive experience in the supervision of corrections staff. Experience working as a DOC Watch Commander or Shift Commander. Working experience developing post orders, interpreting and explaining written policies and procedures to staff. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems effectively. Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and counsel staff. Considerable working knowledge of physical control of offenders, self-defense, first aid procedures, radio communications, and evidence seizure and control.
Prefer college degree in Criminal Justice or related field, LEAD graduate or equivalent applicable experience or training. Prefer working experience with Evidence Based Practices. Prefer working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.
