Under general supervision, the employee is required to review open source information, as well as law enforcement information for the purpose of gathering intelligence and entering the intelligence into a data base. Employee is responsible for providing intelligence reports and analysis that link persons, vehicles, properties etc. for the purpose of more effective investigations and prosecutions. Employee will also be responsible for in conducting analyses of crime patterns, trends, etc, and provide forecasts as the data dictates. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment. Employee must exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with coworkers, other criminal justice agencies, and the general public. Employee works closely with other investigators, line supervisors, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public. Reports to the Police Captain.
Prepares semi-monthly and monthly statistical reports. Reviews crimes for similar methodology for the purpose of identifying crime trends and pattern offenses.
Bachelor’s degree in Crime Analysis, Intelligence Analysis, Criminal Justice, or related field and 1 to 2 years of experience in law enforcement-related statistical analysis or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills or abilities. 1 to 2 years of experience in the use of Microsoft Excel, Access or Crystal reports is preferred.
Certification in crime analysis preferred; Certified Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.
