This is a part-time day position (25 – 27 1/2 hrs/wk) located on the Estherville or Emmetsburg Campus. Primary duties are under limited supervision, perform all mail route duties of loading and unloading intercampus mail, boxes of supplies, books, furniture, etc., that is to be transferred from one campus to another. Will also maintain mail vehicle and equipment necessary to perform the mail route in an efficient manner.
To perform routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and cleaning walls, floors, carpets, equipment, blackboards/whiteboards, etc. Assist with lawn care and snow removal. Works with cleaning equipment and expendable cleaning supplies. Individual needs to possess or be willing to attain general maintenance skills related to plumbing and electrical repairs. Some holiday, evening and weekend work required. This is an “essential” personnel position and will require the employee to work during periods of adverse weather.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES - % OF TIME
Perform daily mail pickups and delivery in a friendly and professional manner.
Drive mail vehicle on predetermined route and maintain time schedule.
Monitor and report problems with route or vehicle.
Work collaboratively with others on delivery of large items.
Monitor for and report needed repairs or maintenance needs to supervisor and perform minor maintenance.
Load and unload boxes containing books or supplies and deliver to appropriate destination (20 – 50 lbs of force).
Assist in loading/unloading equipment and transporting.
Make deliveries as assigned that are not on predetermined route.
Pick up/deliver campus store supplies to/from the Emmetsburg or Estherville store’s back door.
Move materials, furniture and equipment between classrooms or buildings.
Performs daily custodial duties in an assigned area, such as: mop floor, shampoo and vacuum carpets, wipe blackboards/whiteboards, clean bathrooms, empty waste baskets, replenish expendable supplies, change light bulbs, clean walls, wash windows, etc.
Act as security personnel by monitoring unusual activities or personnel and reporting same.
Work collaboratively with others to accomplish assigned tasks.
Remove ice or snow from sidewalks or driveways during winter months.
Mow lawns or otherwise assist with lawn or shrubbery care.
Make minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
Perform weekend building checks.
Lock and unlock facilities as directed by supervisor or according to building schedule.
Operate snow removal and lawn care equipment and machines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Represent the College in a positive manner to other employees, students, visitors, and the community.
Ability to perform medium lifting and repetitious physical activity.
Ability to legally and safely operate college mail vehicle.
Ability to sort and deliver items to appropriate destinations.
Must be able to operate/sit in vehicle for up to 1 ½ hours between stops.
Knowledge of use of common cleaning implements, such as mops and brooms.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate common cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, wet vacs, shampoo machines, and other standard cleaning equipment.
Knowledge of and ability to use common cleaning solutions such as floor wax, furniture wax, detergents, etc.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of and ability to operate lawn mowers and snow removal equipment.
Ability to use common hand tools: hammers, saws, wrenches, etc.
Light to medium work. Position requires exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds constantly to lift or move objects. Must be able to perform routine stooping, bending, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions continually. Occasional kneeling and crawling. May be subject to bio-hazardous waste, chemicals; moving mechanical parts; electrical current; working on scaffolding and ladders; atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin; fumes, odors, dust, mists, gasses or poor ventilation; noise; and vibrations. Must complete Bloodborne Pathogens Training because of potential exposure to blood or body fluids while performing cleaning duties. Will be required to attend all safety meetings, CPR training and other work related training. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.
Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check.

High School diploma or willingness to obtain equivalency required. Education/experience in a specific maintenance area preferred. A diploma or Associate Degree in a specific maintenance area is also acceptable. Experience as a custodian or housekeeper desired. Valid driver’s license required. National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) preferred.
SALARY: $10.45/hour day rate
