Provides single point of contact support for agency contacts during the Individual Disability Income insurance new business application/approval process. Coordinating all communication between the home office, agencies and third party vendors from the application intake phase through the issuance of an approved policy to facilitate a timely, efficient, quality process from start to finish. Responsible for state specific regulatory compliant creation of individual disability income policy contracts. Works autonomously and makes appropriate decisions in the absence of specific direction.


Primary home office contact for both external and internal customers relating to all new business processes. Assist underwriter with underwriting of individual applications by communicating with the field force regarding errors and omissions in submitted materials and follow-up throughout the underwriting process to obtain necessary missing information, documentation, lab results, medical records and/or regulatory compliant documents to ensure contract accuracy at time of issue.

Determine and communicate what sensitive client information is appropriate to discuss with field force while maintaining applicant privacy and confidentiality according to current business practices, laws and statutes. Provide proactive and responsive customer service to callers by providing application status information, researching complex situations, problem-solving, conflict resolution and/or transferring the call to the underwriter when appropriate. Address inquiries from both external and internal parties concerning the IDI new business process as the subject matter expert.

Prepare appropriate correspondence to notify applicant of underwriting decision and proofread for spelling, punctuation and grammar. Perform a quality control review of new business files, applications and issued policy contracts before delivery.


Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience: 3 or more years demonstrated client service/relationship management experience in the insurance or other financial institution field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

PC skills (Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook)

Strong customer service skills including problem solving, consultation, and negotiation skills

Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
