Raytheon BBN Technologies, located in Columbia, MD, is seeking exceptional candidates who posses deep expertise in computing across both hardware and software. Candidates must have a strong desire to develop advanced solutions to complex, cutting-edge problems of national relevancy that span the computing stack from the silicon to the network.
Successful candidates will contribute to one or more projects sponsored by the Department of Defense and the Federal Government that require the development of advanced technologies in coordination with a team of other highly-qualified staff. Example areas of development include: physical system architectures, networking protocols, cyber-physical systems, hardware/software anti-tamper, and specialized operational solutions. A strong understanding of the research process is preferred. Typical projects result in proof-of-concept and/or proof-of-existence capabilities that often times represent the first-of-their-kind in a particular field.
Candidates should enjoy problems that require learning new domains and rapid acquisition of expertise. A thorough understanding of the research process is required.
In addition to a comprehensive understanding of computing spanning both hardware and software, successful candidates will have a desire to develop skills needed to acquire new business opportunities such as proposal/white paper authoring and customer interface skills. Prior demonstration of strong writing skills including the production of publishable material is preferred. Strong candidates should demonstrate an ability to understand technology trends including the broader impact of these trends.
*Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics
*Experience and/or coursework in the areas of processor architectures, microcontrollers, assembly language, firmware, hardware/software interface (i.e. drivers, etc.), operating, system internals, embedded systems, application structure, networking protocols, distributed/parallel computing, and hardware/software interaction.
*Experience developing a physical systems combining sensors, actuators, and computing is preferred.
*Experience developing analog and/or digital circuitry on breadboards or PCBs including board layout, part selection, soldering, etc. is preferred.
