Under general supervision, performs basic processing and microscopic evaluation of Cytology specimens.
Receives and prepares specimens for analysis according to specifications related to the type of specimen.
Performs routine screening of Gyn and Non-Gyn Cytology specimens.
Assists in the collection and processing of fine needle aspiration specimens.
Conducts quality control procedures as needed.
Results and electronically signs out appropriate Cytology reports.
Assists in the training of students and/or residents.
Bachelors Degree in biological science and graduation from an accredited Cytotechnology training program.
Eligible for registration as a Cytotechnologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
NOTE: Certification and/or registration must be obtained within nine (9)
months after employment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of laboratory principles and techniques and medical cytology terminology.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, squatting and sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment.
Requires corrected hearing and vision to within functional range.
