The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Director of Marketing and Communications to join its management team. The College’s Director of Marketing and Communications will be a strategic partner within the Office of Advancement for the College of Dentistry and will be responsible for directing the organization’s marketing and communications function and policies. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer ( CAO ), this highly visible and high impact position will be responsible for the overall brand management, communications and marketing initiatives on behalf of the College. This position directs and initiates a comprehensive marketing program and programs for internal and external communications, including news media relations, government relations, community relations, and College and Society publications. This includes, but is not limited to, communication of mission, programs and services of the College programs to faculty, staff and to the general public on a local, regional, national and international basis. The College Marketing and Communications unit will work collaboratively with The Ohio State University Marketing and Communications departments to assure alignment and coordination with key messages and program initiatives.

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is one of the largest public dental schools in the United States, and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The College is divided into nine divisions or academic units. All major ADA -recognized dental specialties are represented in the College with approximately 600 undergraduate and graduate students.

This position provides strategic communications and marketing leadership, vision and direction for external communications across the university, state and profession. From research to planning and execution, this position establishes short and long-term goals and priorities to help the organization achieve its goals. This position has frequent and continuous interaction with senior leadership within OSU , the College and the public, and is accountable for decisions associated within the area of responsibility. The Director works with public relations agencies and other external advisors as appropriate.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, business, or related field; 8 to 10 years of professional marketing communications experience, preferably in an academic medical center or other scientific or academic environment; experience in market plan development/execution, communications planning, marketing/communications project management and execution, and budgeting; strong copywriting skills and ability to lead and manage a high-performing team in a collaborative and results-oriented manner.
