The Planning and Development Department is seeking a Development Inspector. The selected candidate will receive general supervision from the Development Inspection Supervisor. Shift Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday Friday.
The Development Inspector will perform a variety of technical plumbing inspection duties as well as inspections in other areas of construction(i.e. Building Construction, etc.) in order to enforce compliance with adopted codes, regulations and ordinances.
Additionally, the Development Inspector will provide information and assistance to developers, contractors and the general public; resolve issues relating to code compliance; issue notices for non-compliance; document actions; maintain files and reports for possible legal actions; and perform a variety of technical tasks in assigned area of responsibility.
Skills / Requirements
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate, supplemented by specialized training in construction related trades and/or code enforcement PLUS two (2) years of increasingly responsible inspection experience in multiple codes required. Experience need not be in government service. Preference will be given for higher levels of experience, education, and certification.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will be proficient with MS Word, Excel, PPT, and Access. Extensive telephone and public contact customer service skills required.
Possession of a State of Texas Plumbing Inspectors License is preferred.
Successful applicant will be required to obtain an ICC Commercial Energy Inspector Certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
State Trades License helpful (i.e. a state plumbing journeyman or master license, state electrical journeyman or master license, and/or a state ac contractor license).
MISC. REQUIREMENTS: Office and field environment; travel from site to site; construction site environment; exposure to noise, dust, inclement weather conditions; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; work on uneven surfaces; inspect confined spaces; and work around heavy construction equipment.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light to moderate lifting and carrying; bending, stooping and climbing; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and operating motorized vehicles. Valid State of Texas Drivers License required. City vehicle provided.
