The Planning and Development Department is seeking a Building Development Inspector. The selected candidate will receive general supervision from the Development Inspection Supervisor. Shift Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday Friday.
To perform a variety of technical commercial building inspection duties in order to enforce compliance with building codes, regulations and ordinances including the adopted Building and Energy Codes and City Zoning Codes; to provide information and assistance to developers, contractors and the general public; to resolve issues relating to Building Code compliance; issue notices for non-compliance; document actions; maintain files and reports for possible legal actions; and to perform a variety of technical tasks in assigned area of responsibility.
Skills / Requirements
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate, supplemented by specialized training in the building trades and/or code enforcement PLUS two (2) years of increasingly responsible inspection experience in multiple codes required. Preference will be given for higher levels of experience, education, and appropriate certification(s).
International Code Conference (ICC) certification as an International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Commercial Inspector is required within six (6) months of appointment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will be proficient with MS Word, Excel, PPT, and Access. Extensive telephone and public contact customer service skills required.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS: City of Fort Worth policy on acceptable driving record required.
Office and field environment; travel from site to site; construction site environment; exposure to noise, dust, inclement weather conditions; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; work on uneven surfaces; inspect confined spaces; and work around heavy construction equipment.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light to moderate lifting and carrying; bending, stopping and climbing; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and operating motorized vehicles. Valid State of Texas Drivers License required. City vehicle provided.
