To direct, analyze and appraise the Surgical Services Departments. Operating Room, PACU, Day Surgery, Pre-surgical Testing and Sterile Processing, in the provision of services to patients, physicians and ancillary departments. To direct and control the purchases and inventory maintenance of all supplies.
To advise hospital management regarding the status of patient care, budgetary projections, and quality improvement processes.
To anticipate and estimate future needs of the Surgical Services Department to improve quality of patient care.
To collaborate and coordinate the efforts of the staff of the department to accomplish the mission of The Woman’s
To mentor and develop staff to provide exceptional care to the patient’s served.
Directs, coordinates and controls the overall operation of
Surgical Services; develops policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
Responsible for the determination of the qualifications and competencies of the personnel who provide patient care and support service in surgical services departments.
Responsible for the provision of orientation, in-service training and continuing education to all persons in the department.
Directs and coordinates the integration of the departmental functions and services with other aspects of overall patient care.
Directs the quality assurance and process improvement activities and ensures compliance with patient care and medical practice standards.
Continuously assesses and improves the performance of the services provided.
Directs and participates in the development, revision, implementation and communication of goals, policies, guidelines and standards for the department. Ensures adequate facility space and competent personnel to meet the needs of the patients served.
Collaborates with hospital personnel and physicians to ensure optimal patient care and promote a positive working environment in the department and hospital.
Responsible for establishing the financial budget in conjunction with senior management; directs the financial budget to attain a profitable business model.
Develops and administers policies and procedures for the department.
Ensures that services maintain compliance with the standards of practice for the unit as well as the standards, rules and regulations of JCAHO.
Performs other duties as directed or assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer.
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
Associates or BSN.
BSN or MSN
Current RN license in Texas BCLS certified
Specialty certification (CNOR or CPAN)
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice in with emphasis on leadership and management experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Read and write basic English; ability to move in excess of 50 pounds with assistance from staff; knowledge of body substance isolation; ability to listen, empathize and respond to patients families, internal and external partners, managerial and employee needs; basic computer and typing skills.
