Reads, understands and interprets construction drawings, floor plans, schedules, charts,
legends, bills of material, instructions, specifications, schematics, technical literature,
etc. Ability to work from these items to create renovation documents in AutoCAD using
verbal and written instructions from UAB licensed design professionals as needed for
construction renovations as well as maintaining and updating facility drawings.
Maintains library of drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
Uses drafting tools and equipment including the most recent version of AutoCAD to
create and revise architectural and/or engineering design documents.
Uses measuring tools to verify site conditions, check drawings and make corrections to
drawings. Provides drawing information feedback to other Facilities Departments such as Facilities
Planning, Maintenance, Project Management Services, and others in need of verifying
as built” conditions. Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or directed by Division management and supervision. Hourly Pay Range: ($16.14 - $20.65 - $25.17)
Typical duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Provides support to department personnel with respect to Development of Architectural
and Engineering Design Drawings. Maintains filing system for drawings.
Transmits to database administrator and keeps records of design updates for inclusion
into drawing database.
Verifies by field measurement “as built” conditions and updates drawings. Transmits
AutoCAD drawing files to others on request.
Produces departmental reports on a personal computer using word processing,
database, and spreadsheet programs.
Experience should include development of full construction drawing sets, construction detailing and following red-line mark-up instructions from project architect/engineer for design drawings at similar facilities. Experience in drafting for both Architects and Engineers preferred. Experience with AutoCAD strongly preferred.
Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of
mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this
position to include: Lifting and carrying a minimum of thirty (30) pounds.
Climbing stairs and ladders, and working at heights above twenty (20) feet.
Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking
significant distances between and within buildings on campus.

Completion of a 2-year Associates Degree in Architectural Technology or
Drafting from an approved accredited post-secondary vocational or technical
school is required. A Bachelor Degree in Architecture or related field is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years experience working as a drafter in a professional
architectural or construction engineering office.
Licensure / Certifications
Driver’s License valid in the State of Alabama may be required based on departmental need.
