These part time positions promote independence, self-esteem and community integration to individuals with developmental disabilities in the community by the following duties:
• Provides instruction and assistance to individuals in areas ofdaily living including but not limited to personal hygiene,constructive use of leisure time and personal finances.
• Participates in a person centered approach to program plandevelopment and participates in activities to build competencies andintegrate individuals into their communities.
Albany County Openings:
ALBANY- We have an opening for a young adult woman who lives in Albany, looking for support staff who can be sensitive to her learning and communication style and can see her capacity to learn skills and become more independent. Support staff should have the ability to set a tone of partnership. Flexible, part time late afternoon and weekend hours, 3-4 times per week.
LATHAM- A 21 year old young man living in Latham with his family would like to have Community Habilitation supports a couple times each week to grow in skills that will enable him to live on his own some day. He is interested in learning to cook, budget, take public transportation. He would like to avoid crowds but access his community for hiking, and learning more about history. He enjoys computers and drawing.
ALBANY- A 28 year old woman living in Albany with her mother would like to access her community safely and appropriately, and work on skills that will enable her to live outside her home some day. She loves baking, bowling, and the movies. She would like to work on skills such as cooking, shopping, budgeting, banking, organization, scheduling and using Star Bus.
ALBANY- We are looking for a DSP for Community Habilitation to work with a 27 year old woman who lives with her mother in Albany. We are looking for someone to support her approximately 10 hours per week, 2 to 3 half days (either mornings or afternoons), Monday –Friday. Skill development includes organization, planning, communication, and safety. She is quite social and eager to learn.
DELMAR- A 16 year old living with his parents and twin sister would like a DSP for Community Habilitation on Wednesday afternoons. He is looking for assistance with daily living skills to learn Spanish more fluently, refine his money skills, work on his computer completing spreadsheets and creating apps, and to access his community for
Rensselaer County openings:
TROY- A 9 year old living at home with his mother is looking for community hab support after school. He would like his direct support professional to get him off the bus at 2:30 and support him with safety and communication skills. He loves to be active and enjoys balls, drums, playgrounds and swimming. Limited verbal language and sensory diet. More work time would be available as needed.
CASTLETON- A 16 year old girl living with her mother is looking for a direct support professional to support her with effective communication, safety, and a variety of daily living skills. She likes accessing her community for a variety of activities such as shopping, museums, playgrounds, ice cream shops, walking, the post office. She would like someone after school around 3:00- 3:45 for about 3 hours.
RENSSELAER- A 61year old woman with a developmental disability who lives at home with family in is in need of support for 10 hours each week, evenings and one weekend day. She is very pleasant, extremely active and enjoys being out in the community. Her primary language is Italian, although she understands and speaks some English. She needs support with personal hygiene care, dressing, and safety with consuming food, money exchanges, crossing streets, and stranger awareness.
Saratoga County Openings:
SARATOGA- A 52 year old woman with a developmental disability is looking for daytime supports which will enhance her ability to live independently in her own apartment.She is seeking support 2 to 3 times a week, for 3 hours each session. She wants support in identifying and participating in volunteer activities and practicing safe and appropriate social interactions.
CLIFTON PARK- A 19 year old boy living at home with his mother and 3 siblings is looking for an additional staff to support him with accessing his community for a variety of activities such as library, restaurants, YMCA, walking, shopping, and other activities of interest. He would like assistance with hygiene tasks, safe and appropriate conduct in his community, and learning greater independence overall.
CLIFTON PARK- A 21 year old male living in Clifton Park with his mother is looking to access the community once per week to work on health, fitness, recreation, safety, and independence. He enjoys biking, swimming, walking, and basketball.
MECHANICVILLE- A male in his 30’s living with his parents is looking for a community habilitation worker to access the community on the weekends. He would like assistance with appropriate and effective communication and safety in his community. He enjoys being a part of his community and getting to know people he sees regularly.
ROUND LAKE: A 41 year old man with a developmental disability who lives in Round Lake with his mother is looking for support to access his community 1 to 2 times each week, for 4 hours each session. He has many interests and abilities and is very open to trying new experiences. He wants support to stay healthy through good eating habits and exercise. His interests include swimming, walking, bowling; going to book stores, Dunkin Donuts, and the library.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Medication Administration based on program need, First-Aid and CPR certification or eligibility for certification. SCIP/PROMOTE certification based on program need. Daily access to an automobile is required. A valid New York State Driver's License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required. CPR and First Aid certification or eligibility for certification. Applicants hired after April 1, 2005 must be cleared and maintain acceptable record under the NYS OPWDD mandated criminal background check process.
