Data Analyst - Medicare - 1127612

The mission of this contract is to support CMS in efforts to combat fraud and abuse in the Medicare Program.

* Data Analyst: The position requires the individual to conduct analysis on claims data and other sources of information to detect situations of potential fraud; to support ongoing fraud investigations; and to process requests for data. This individual will be required to review sophisticated data model output and/or perform additional analysis in effort to meet the mission of this contract. The position requires the individual to:
  • Apply developed subject matter knowledge to solve common and complex business issues within established guidelines and recommend appropriate alternatives.
  • Work on problems / projects of diverse complexity and scope.
  • Exercise independent judgment within generally defined policies and practices to identify and select a solution.
  • Act as a team or project leader, providing direction, facilitating information validation, and participating in the team decision-making process.
  • Seek advice in order to make decisions on complex business issues.
  • Attend meetings, training, and conferences; overnight travel required.
This position will be located in Indianapolis, Indiana or Chico, California.


* Bachelor degree in statistics or related discipline.

* Experience analyzing healthcare data.

* 2+ years of recent work experience in writing SAS code to evaluate a wide array of data types and perform analyses according to analysis plans. Experience in projects using eligibility, claims/encounter, and/or provider data preferred.

* Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.

* Medicare experience preferred.

* Strong proven analytical ability.

* Proven ability to work with a variety of systems, sources of data, and analytic tools.


Essential functions:

* Must be able to understand analytic question and devise data extract strategies.

* Must be able to analyze healthcare data to detect potentially fraudulent billing patterns.

* Must be able to communicate ideas and analysis results effectively both verbally and in writing.
