The Database / DBA Manager is responsible for providing IT services to one or more areas of the business. The Manager has knowledge of and experience with the technology and business processes they support and maintain. Through interaction with their leadership and occasionally key business leadership and business area subject matter experts, they have an understanding of the business process lifecycle, process critical success factors, and can assist in identifying gaps in process functionality not met by current technology.

The Manager acts as a single point of contact for their IT area of support. In cases where business needs must be addressed by other IT areas, they act as an intermediary ensuring that their business needs are timely addressed. To do this, the Manager must maintain ongoing, effective communications with their IT peers regarding emerging business needs, current projects and post-production results.

The Manager maintains an effective team composed of highly motivated individuals who have clearly defined roles, achievable objectives, and receive recognition for high quality results or candid feedback on unsatisfactory performance. The Manager maintains formal and informal performance review and feedback processes to provide periodic and timely review of associate work.

Manages from one to two small team areas within the USF IT organization.

·

Uses USF best practices in running their area.

·

Publishes status reports every week.

·

Verifies test plans for Changes and Releases (projects) are adequate.

·

Approves Testing results for Unit, SIT, UAT for major releases (projects).

·

Manages problem resolution process.

·

Supports and maintains change control process.

·

Provides input and delivers performance appraisal of team members.

·

Develops project Work Effort estimates.

·

Provide regular updates to the Director on key activities and projects within their area.

·

Understand the support effort required to maintain the application portfolio, including causal factors for recurring problems – and initiate corrective actions to reduce or eliminate such issues.

·

Review, approve and account for all time charged by their associates on projects, support, and administration activities.

·

Communicate within their group business and IT Area objectives, issues, initiatives and results.

·

Identify emerging or present issues which must be addressed by business or IT management.

·

Authorize / Approve planned expenditures for their projects and department(s).

·

Maintain software license compliancy for their area of responsibility.

·

Monitor and track actual versus budgeted operating and capital expenses for projects and department expenses.

·

Recruits, interviews, hires, and conducts performance reviews and disciplinary actions.

·

Expresses complex technical concepts effectively.

·

Works well with many different disciplines and cross functional teams.

·

Sets priorities and organize work to meet deadlines.

·

Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships.

·

Demonstrates a sound level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Possesses strong customer service orientation.

Responsible for ensuring compliance within their area related to Organization Policies and Procedures, including, but not limited to:

·

Vacation, sick, and time off.

·

Travel expense management, reporting and reimbursement.

·

Performance Management process.

·

Use of the Remedy system to manage operations support of problems and changes.

·

Use and maintenance of Request and Release management system.

·

Adherence to the Enhanced Systems Development Life Cycle Methodology for all projects small or large.

·

Use of TENROX time accounting system to record, approve, and report time for all associates.

Coaches direct reports in business process, IT process, interpersonal and/or technical skills.

Qualifications

-

Required Qualifications:
10+ years work experience within an Information Technology area.

Prior Database Administration or Database Management experience.

Prior experience supervising a work team including conducting performance reviews.

Experience managing or supporting medium to large scale data center environments running Oracle and SQL.

Knowledge of RDBMS systems specifically Oracle and SQL-Server

Demonstrated experience leading Database implementations, upgrades, and/or migration efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree

Demonstrated experience in project management, systems development lifecycle, and solutions delivery.

Working managerial or technical experience involving designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting applications running Oracle (including PeopleSoft, Oracle Web Center Portal, OEM management software, and large Data Warehouse databases running on Exadata).

Previous programming knowledge or experience.
