Summary

Weber is looking for a Database Administrator to monitor and maintain the day-to-day operations (including availability, consistency, backup/recovery and performance) of all databases running on the Microsoft SQL Server platform. This individual will join a team dedicated to developing line of business and public-facing web applications and thus will have opportunities to assist in the design and development of databases. They should be diligent, self-starting and pro-active in their efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned

Database Administration
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of current web application and Microsoft SQL Server landscape, including servers, databases, applications, and users
  • Make certain all SQL Server database servers and user databases are available at all times
  • Ensure success of all Microsoft SQL Server database backup jobs and the validity of the backup files
  • Manage and implement performance monitoring, utilizing native tools, existing scripts/automation and creating new ones as needed
  • Identify and resolve issues related to database performance, capacity, security, clustering and replication
  • Analyze and configure SQL Server system with focus on optimization in the areas of memory, CPU, disk space and network
  • Work with server and network installers to determine best configuration for new servers running Microsoft SQL Server
  • Install and configure SQL Server instances as necessary
  • Keep all SQL Server instances current with SQL Server-related service packs and hotfixes, making sure that all related development, test and production environments are in sync
  • Implement new data models and database designs in accordance with application requirements. Analyze existing models and designs when working with application change requests.
  • Coordinate with team to determine impact of database changes on related systems and associated staff cost for implementation
  • Design, develop, test and maintain database objects related to custom DBA scripts and utilities
  • Develop, manage and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company databases
  • Design, assign and maintain role-based security as needed
  • Train users and answer questions as needed
  • Thoroughly document all work
Support
  • Provide technical support by responding to help desk tickets
  • Thoroughly analyze previously written SQL scripts and other related code
Project Management
  • Develop project plans, coordinate resources, communicate progress and work within budgeted time
  • Create and maintain logs and/or charts of all database projects
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience administering Microsoft SQL Server technologies
  • 3+ years of professional experience in data analysis and/or database development
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008/2012
  • Skilled at constructing SQL statements, stored procedures and functions using Transact-SQL (T-SQL)
  • Experience working with Windows Server 2003/2008
  • Understanding of optimal disk configurations for SQL Server
  • Thorough knowledge of database design, data modeling and related tools
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Possess equal parts of attention to detail and style, humble attitude and hunger for a challenge
Education and/or Experience

B.A. or B.S. from four-year college or university; or equivalent and relevant work-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with application development and object-oriented programming practices
  • Understanding of .NET CLR integration with SQL Server
  • Experience with Windows PowerShell and integration with SQL Server
  • Experience managing SQL Server in a virtual server environment (VMWare)
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following tools and techniques: ETL (SQL Server Integration Services), Data Warehouse ( SQL Server Analysis Services), Reporting (SQL Server Reporting Services, Crystal Reports)
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas: Project Management, Network Security, Network Administration, Information Architecture
  • Microsoft Certification for MS SQL (MCITP, MCTS, MCSA) is beneficial but not required
