As part of our Infrastructure Data Services team, the Data Architect defines the enterprise data architecture vision, strategy, principles, and standards for Gordon Food Service. This strategic position also includes the maintenance documentation of the data architecture elements, including metadata as it pertains to information resources. In addition this role participates in efforts where data architecture knowledge is required or requested by other IS teams.
Here are the essential functions performed in this role:
Define enterprise data architecture vision, strategy, principles, and standards for all of Gordon Food Service
Design relational database logical data models in collaboration with development teams, promoting data sharing and integration
Provide data modeling tool expertise
Establish and maintain system metadata related to enterprise information resources
Approve all changes to data structures so as to ensure that data structures maintain design consistency throughout their lifecycle
Understand the meaning of the data model elements and how they support GFS business processes
Actively participates in GFS IS activities that will benefit from the understanding of data architecture, data models, or meaning of data elements (development projects, package application evaluations, architecture and engineering councils, data integration mapping, planning discussions, etc.)
Promotes data quality across all data domains
Collaborates with Business Intelligence team to ensure appropriate data architecture consistencies are maintained across OLAP, ODS, and OLTP data domains
Key requirements for this position include:
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field
5+ years Information Systems experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Ability to analyze and interpret the business requirements is critical to this role
Understanding of SQL server and Oracle database technology
Strong communication and collaboration experiences within both IS and business teams
Effective leadership skills, including the art of influence and coaching
Track record of success in establishing architecture vision, strategy, principles and standards within a large organization
Experience in designing relational databases, logical data models and data sharing integration
Data modeling tool expertise is essential
System metadata experience related to enterprise information resources
Data quality experience
