The Database Engineer is an important piece of the Platform Engineering team at Machine Zone and will report into our VP of Platform Engineering and Chief Architect. You should have extensive experience with Objective Oriented development and have built database applications against MySQL. You will be responsible for building, running and analyzing massive, high-performance and scalable game features. Your work will be played and used by tens of millions of global players in the future!

Manage database instances to accommodate growth and scale, troubleshoot database issues, and maintain database, including schema changes, data migration and data restoration.
Create server builds for release.
Run and analyze load tests and assist with performance optimization of the database system. Review database change requests and provide optimization advice.
Assist engineers and business analysts with adopting database best practices.
Write unit and function tests.
Work with game designers, iPhone developers and Quality Assurance team to deliver high quality online games.

BS in Computer Science and 5 years of experience.
Experience building database applications against MySQL
Familiarity with PHP/LAMP and JAVA environment
Experience with coding practices including design, unit testing and peer code reviews.
Knowledge in design, implementation and production of large-scale systems
Skills in building scalable and complex web-based application with high performance
And in-depth Object-oriented (PHP/ JAVA/ C++) development.

Has interest or experience in the game industry
