To be considered, the following must be furnished
• Classified Employment Application.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• H6 DMV Print out within the last month.

The process will begin with the competitive screening of qualified applicants. The most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a written, oral, and/or practical examination process. Successful candidates will be ranked on an eligibility list according to the examination score. Final selection will then be made in accordance with Merit System rules from the established eligibility list. Fingerprinting and criminal record checks will be done on all prospective employees.

Knowledge and Skills: Requires a thorough knowledge and understanding of safe bus driving practices, and the various mechanical characteristics of buses. Must have a thorough understanding of State laws, rules and regulations and Education Code sections pertaining to school bus operations and pupil transportation. Requires knowledge of the organization and clerical requirements of a transportation office, and in-field monitoring of fleet operations.
Abilities: Requires the ability to conduct behind-the-wheel training and assist inservice programs; coordinate with Instructor/Driver and Transportation Dispatcher in scheduling of new and continuing Bus Driver inservice and training attendance; exercise good judgment and extreme caution while operating a school bus; and to remain calm in emergency situations. Must be able to accept and/or relate to students with a variety of needs. Requires the ability to communicate with students, staff, parents and the public using patience and courtesy, and in a manner that reflects positively on the District. Must learn designated bus route, including stops and traffic hazards. Must be able to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis and to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written form and be able to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Must be able to participate in professional growth conferences, workshops and school bus rodeos. Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team.
Physical Abilities: Requires arm-hand and leg-foot dexterity to drive a bus. Requires visual acuity including depth perception. Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time. Requires hearing sufficient to be aware of traffic and road distractions/conditions and listen to children, and to operate a two-way radio. Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 40 pounds).
Minimum Qualifications (Education and/or Experience: This is the minimum experience and education/training standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for examination.
High School diploma or completion of GED and three (3) years of experience as a School Bus Driver is required.
Licenses and Certificates: Requires valid Commercial Driver’s License; medical examination card; valid California Special Driver Certificate. Must have a driving record with no chargeable accidents within the past three years preceding the date of application. Must be able to obtain a valid California Department of Education Delegated Behind-the-Wheel Instructor Certificate by the end of the probationary period.
