Provides service, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require;
  • Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances;
  • Investigates criminal offenses; arrests offenders.
  • Responsible for enforcement duties for the protection, safety and welfare of citizens and property under the jurisdiction of the county.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
    • Exercises independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, rules, and regulations, and by departmental policies and procedures.
    • Police property by means of vehicle or on foot.
    • Preserves the peace, intercedes to prevent crime, provide service, information, and directions to citizens.
    • Execute all lawful process.
    • Arrests offenders without warrant where authorized by law.
    • Conduct initial investigations of criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals.
    • Recover lost or stolen property.
    • Attempt to locate missing persons.
    • Enforces traffic laws and investigates vehicle collisions.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.
    • Readily complies with departmental and countywide policies and procedures.
    • Performs related special projects as assigned.
    • The physical demands and environmental factors listed below, as well as regular attendance, are also essential functions for this position.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
    • Ability to pursue violators on foot over rough terrain and obstacles; to physically subdue and restrain aggressive violators, to safely operate a motor vehicle and mobile radio under normal and emergency conditions without any equipment modifications specific to any individual operator.
    • Long periods of driving and sitting.
    • Must be able to speak in a clear, understandable voice.
    • Able to competently discharge a firearm with either hand.
    • Able to hear audible sounds such as normal conversations, audible alarms, and radio transmissions.
    ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS :
    • Exposure to excessive heat and cold (outdoor conditions).
    • Job may involve danger due to contact with criminals and suspects.
    • Must be able to work day or night shifts and holidays with varying days off.
    • Williamson County has adopted a Tobacco-Free Workplace policy. This policy prohibits smoking or use of any tobacco product on Williamson County premises. Williamson County and Cities Health District offers free smoking cessation programs to employees and spouses

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High school diploma or equivalent; must meet minimal physical requirements, and mental and educational standards, set by the state and department.
    • Current Basic Texas Peace Officer certification from TCLEOSE
    • Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
    • Ability to type and enter data with appropriate speed and efficiency.
    • Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
    • Must obtain a valid Texas driver’s license by date of hire.
    EMPLOYMENT TESTING:
    • Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment, and periodic drug testing and criminal background investigations.
    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS :
    • Education or prior experience in a related field
    • Data entry efficiency at a minimum of 55 wpm.
    IRREGULAR HOURS:
    • May work varying hours and weekends.
    • Essential Personnel for Emergency Situations; at the discretion of the Department Director.
