Summary: Doyon Security Services (DSS) is a financially strong and dynamic organization that provides comprehensive security solutions protecting people, property, resources, and assets utilizing a client-centered approach. DSS is seeking experienced and highly qualified Detention Officers (unarmed/armed) for a joint venture project at a DHS/ICE Special Processing Center government facility located in El Paso, Texas.
The Detention Officer is responsible to ensure the safety and security of detainees in custody, acting in accordance with the highest ethical standards at all times, and ensuring a spirit of fairness and integrity in the on-going execution of their duties. Performs duties related to the detention, processing, safeguarding, security, escort and transport of detainees as required in the contract;
Exercises surveillance and control over detainees, and maintains order and discipline;
Attends to housing, feeding, and the physical well-being of detainees, 24 hours a day;
Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility;
Provides care, custody and control of detainees;
Removes detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures;
Guards detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care and when and other duties as assigned;
Will be required to operate transportation bus.
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures;
Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Able to speak, read, write and understand English. Must concisely and accurately write narratives of incidents and prepare written reports.
Ability to pass and maintain the medical and physical testing requirements and standards.
Exercises judgment and uses discretion in dealing with first response to any and all situations. Following required training, incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in methods and techniques of securing and controlling detainees.
Incumbent must maintain physical fitness standards and proficiency with firearms and issued and other special equipment.
US citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the United States for permanent residence, and U.S. resident for at least the last five years.
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record)
Pass a government background check and obtain DHS/ICE clearance
Be at least 21 years of age.
Possess a valid state driver's license with CDL Bus Endorsement.
Experience with firearms required
Ability to obtain a state security guard license
One year of Military, Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Security experience demonstrating the following: 1) Ability to greet and deal tactfully with the general public. 2) Capability of following and interpreting/understanding written and verbal orders, policies and regulations, printed rules and regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and are able to compose written and oral reports. 3) Proven ability to exercise good judgment, courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities. 4) Ability to maintain poise and self control during situations that involve mental and physical stress, such as fires, explosions, disturbances and building evacuations.
Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information.
Pass a medical examination and all pre-employment/random drug tests
Possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE National Detention Standards.
Demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles; with a cross cultural perspective.
Maintain current/physical residency in the continental United States.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent’s duties are performed in a detention facility environment; working with a wide variety of people from different cultures, backgrounds and speaking various languages, while performing multiple functions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent is required to work the majority of hours in an indoor/outdoor detention center environment, standing and walking the majority of time, while maintaining a degree of physical fitness to manage firefighting equipment and other equipment, lift heavy objects and respond quickly to changes in work demands, emerging situations and emergencies.
