Overview

The Development Assistant Seasonal Position is a full-time, temporary position (up to 35 hours p/w and beginning mid March until mid September, $15 per hour) that supports the administrative functions of the AFS-USA National Development Office. The Development Office raises nearly $3M annually from individuals, foundations and corporations through direct mail, online, special event, major and planned gifts, and telemarketing programs.

Responsibilities may include any of the following, as required:
  • Assist the Deputy Director of Development with cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Assist with Major Gifts, Annual Fund, Scholarships, Planned Giving, and Alumni Programs
  • Assist in coordinating donor solicitation mailings
  • Assist in fulfilling reporting requirements for the Scholarship Program
  • Assist in planning cultivation events for AFS Alumni (Returnees) and donors
  • Process and acknowledge gifts, including credit card and online donation processing, gift entry into the Raisers Edge database, and executing acknowledgment letters and receipts
  • Update donor records in the Raisers Edge database
  • Perform data clean-up projects in Raisers Edge and Convio, including merging duplicate records
  • Provide other administrative support, as assigned, including answering phone, responding to correspondence, and filing
Required experience, knowledge and skills:
  • Prior administrative experience in a not-for-profit Development Department is a MUST
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and fundraising databases required (Raisers Edge strongly preferred)
  • Ability to maintain confidential records and information
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work requests and complete assignments on time and manage the completion of multiple projects, often with shifting priorities, while working under direct supervision or independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Professionalism and propriety to interact properly and effectively with staff, major donors, Board members, volunteers, and the general public
