Responsible for the identification, cultivation and stewardship of supporters of the Schmid College of Science and Technology with a focus on unrestricted leadership gifts, annual giving, corporate donations and sponsorships. The Development Manager will plan and manage logistics of media events, special events, meetings, conferences, etc., develop communication tools including the use of social media to promote and increase Schmid College’s visibility and profile among internal and external constituencies, manage a volunteer advisory board, and build relations with alumni and parents of current students. The Development Manager reports to the Dean of Schmid College of Science and Technology and collaborates with the University Advancement team.
Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in related fields; or must possess demonstrated knowledge and skills in cultivation and stewardship of supporters, with three years of professional experience. Experience in marketing communication strategies and branding concepts. Strong written communication skills; ability to prepare clear, structured, grammatically correct, articulate and persuasive development materials, business correspondence and other documents. Ability to independently proofread professional documents, brochures and other printed or web materials. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise discretion and judgment. Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze data and prepare reports and other materials. Knowledge of current communication tools, social media and platforms to build an online community, deliver messages and share news and information. Strong organizational skills to plan coordinate and direct logistics of media events, special events, meetings, conferences, etc. Strong interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the University. Ability to demonstrate tack and diplomacy, foster partnerships and maintain a high level of confidentiality. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with competing demands, interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload and the ability to carry out duties in a timely manner Analytical skills to interpret statistical data, evaluate program effectiveness and recommend changes. Strong computer skills in using word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, internet and email software preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software. Technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems. Ability to manage budgets to meet program objectives.
Desired: Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of gift fundraising, annual giving, constituency development, alumni relations, and special events, preferably in higher education. Experience working with dean and directors, academic and university leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals. Understanding of academic, research, education functions and operating principles of a private university, especially in the science and technology fields with the ability to learn and apply science concepts.
