Position Overview
The Digital Content Editor is the lead digital journalist for KCUR. This position requires a person who possesses digital journalism skills to develop and deliver the news online in a compelling manner while also engaging readers and listeners across all social and digital platforms. In conjunction with the KCUR newsroom, producers, and other senior staff, this position is responsible for the creation, curation, editing, and implementation of daily news and information on and its related social media channels. This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Program Director or General Manager.
Major Responsibilities
Work with senior staff to refine and implement strategy and vision for digital operations.

Edit and produce front page and other content for to grow audience.

Write and edit copy, write headlines and select/prioritize stories and packages for feature placement on and social media platforms.

Work with the Program Director and News Director to assess content from a variety of sources to determine where and how it fits into daily coverage and user needs.

Collaborate with our team of reporters and producers to translate broadcast pieces into online stories, and to create engaging multi-media content for news articles, information graphics, editorial projects and social media.

Train and assist KCUR staff in navigating Core Publisher, our CMS. Train and advise KCUR staff on best practices and station/NPR standards for content they’re creating for the web.

Work with locally produced shows on developing and delivering digital content.

Develop and produce original content for using a mix of traditional and new media storytelling elements including audio, video, text, still photography, and slideshows.

Provide weekly and monthly reports and analysis on web and social media traffic.

Work with KCUR staff to deliver featured content, encourage engagement and grow audiences via social media channels.

Work with KCUR newsroom to deliver breaking news online.

Generate ideas and processes for supplemental web content.

Work with development department to refine approach to fundraising on digital and social platforms.

Work with IT department on streaming and other projects.

Accept and deliver on digital assignments both in and out of the office.

Participate in on-air and online fundraising as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree in computer science or related degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is required.
2 years of professional web administration work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of digital content creation and web publishing experience in a broadcast or digital newsroom environment. Public media experience is preferred.
Strong writing and copy editing skills with the ability to write for web audiences.
Proven editorial judgment, with a commitment to standards of objectivity, balance and fairness.
Proven grasp of digital trends and ability to grow digital audiences.
Solid communication skills to both internal and external audiences.
Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Experience using image/audio/video editing software.
Experience with social media platforms.
Demonstrated data-driven judgment with promoting and featuring site content based on engagement, social behavior and other traffic metrics.
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Experience with content management systems required. Experience with Core Publisher or other Drupal-based CMS is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to take direction & work collaboratively with various personalities.
Ability to work a flexible schedule depending on breaking news cycle is required.
