The Director of Communications, Software and Application Solution Marketing is responsible for: (1) establishing the strategy and the roadmap for how communications will be embedded into the Electrical Sector’s components and assemblies; (2) driving implementation of that roadmap through each product division and product engineering group; (3) developing application-oriented value propositions that take advantage of our communications and/or software capabilities; (4) creating the roadmap for future software needs and then working with the software engineering group or third party partners to develop the required software; and (5) promoting the Electrical Sector’s software and communications offers and capabilities to the sales force, channels and external customers with a focus on increasing Eaton specified equipment and systems. He/she will have to work closely with separate groups that do software and communications engineering and development and that provide post-sale application support.
The communications roadmap will need to take into account both what is required to meet specifications that are currently requested in the market and what would allow Eaton to put together stronger information-based value propositions. It will also have to balance the benefit of having communications in all individual devices against the cost of implementing that strategy.
The leader of this group will be the focal point within the Electrical Sector for a major cross-business and cross-function priority. He/she will need to have strong links to the product and segment marketing organizations, the product engineering groups, the application engineers in the sales force and a wide range of senior managers.
Create tools to make it easier to sell, configure and support Eaton’s current and future software and communications offers
Fix the plumbing: develop a roadmap to fill-out our offerings of communications capable hardware, targeting the right products with the right protocols
Work with the engineering groups of all divisions, but with a particular focus on Electrical Products, to make sure that adequate communications are built into all component products
Unlock the potential: provide the business case and the clear requirements for a software/applications platform that can support unique solutions based on customer needs
Develop differentiated solutions focused on specific applications for end customers in key market segments. The segment organization should bring “what is needed” to this collaboration while this organization should bring a strong sense of “what is possible”
Promote our offers in a way that builds field selling and customer understanding and results in more Eaton systems being specified.
Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
Minimum 10 years communications, software and/or information management experience
Minimum B.S. or B.A. degree in electrical engineering, IT, marketing or business management
Thorough knowledge of typical industry protocols: Modbus TCP, bacnet IP, SNMP, Ethernet IP, IEEE 61850, and Profinet
Product management, product marketing or product engineering experience in the electrical industry
