Hillel, the Jewish Campus Center of the University of Missouri seeks a dynamic, creative professional with strong organizational, programming, and personal engagement skills to serve as the Campus Director for the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. This person will lead Hillel to be a leader of Jewish cultural and religious activities for students attending the University of Missouri and other colleges in Mid-Missouri.
About the Community:
There are about 800 Jewish students in Columbia, Missouri that are served by the University of Missouri Hillel. Hillel is a place where Jewish students at Mizzou come to meet each other and get involved in Jewish life in Mid-Missouri. MU Hillel is nationally accredited and owns a building with a Kosher kitchen. MU Hillel is committed to creating a pluralistic, welcoming and inclusive environment; fostering student growth and the balance in being distinctively Jewish and universally human; advancing social justice, Jewish learning and spirituality; embracing Israel and global Jewish peoplehood and creating a close-knit community of people with one thing in common: being Jewish.
The University of Missouri is the state’s flagship university with 25,000 undergraduate and 5,000 graduate students. Columbia is conveniently located between Kansas City and St. Louis with a population of 100,000. In addition to Hillel, Columbia has a vibrant synagogue, Congregation Beth Shalom, as well as a Chabad Center.
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree and 2 - 5 years relevant experience including some or all of the following: leadership development, program planning and implementation, supervision, strategic planning, Judaic knowledge, previous work with undergraduate and graduate students, some development experience. Creates programmatic opportunities that shape an educational, cultural, religious and social environment that will allow the members of MU’s diverse Jewish community to reach a greater understanding and fuller expression of their own Jewish identity.
EMPOWERS OTHERS TO LEAD
Delegates leadership and responsibilities for activities to others, in particular empowering students to develop and carry out Jewish educational, cultural, and religious events and activities, including leading holiday and Shabbat services.
Listens actively to students and other MU community members in order to identify strengths, weaknesses and leadership potential in others, to connect them with the right opportunity to develop.
BUILDS STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIPS
Maintains and enhances existing fundraising relationships with Hillel benefactors, including the St Louis Jewish Federation.
Engages with University administrators and campus religious leaders.
Strategically initiates, develops and maintains networks of people, including Jewish students and Hillel stakeholders in order to advance Hillel’s goals.
Sets processes or routines in place to free up resources and increase productivity.
Anticipates and prevents problems that are creating inefficiency or hurdles for others.
Identifies potential organizational challenges and builds in contingency approaches where appropriate.
Provides oversight and management of the Hillel building, including budgetary matters, office organization and tenant relations.
