Education and Training : MSN preferred but a BSN is essential. Nurse must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and possess a current licensure by the N.C. Board of Nursing.

Experience : Experienced as a professional nurse in which potential managerial and supervisory competence has been demonstrated. Minimum of five years experience in hospital nursing required.

The Director will facilitate aligning Department’s vision and goals with the organization’s strategic initiatives. The Director is responsible for the organization, management and direction of the Women’s Care Center . The Director plans for unit functioning including budgeting and work schedules. The Director evaluates performance of nursing staff and assists with staff development. In collaboration with Corporate Compliance, Risk Management and others deemed necessary, the Director investigates all incidents, accidents, complaints, and grievances. The Director coordinates activities with other nursing units and non?nursing departments. The Director ensures the availability of supplies and equipment. The Director maintains quiet, clean and safe physical surroundings. The Director participates in Clinical Division activities, meetings and other appropriate committees.

The Director has 24 hour accountability.

The Director leads the department in Performance Improvement activities and facilitates active participation of staff.

The Director must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The Director must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's / area's / department's policies and procedures.

Affiliations : American Nurses Association, local and national level, is preferred. Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nursing membership is expected.

Environmental and Special Demands: A physical plant conducive to render the best possible patient care and allow space and time for administrative duties. May serve on various medical center committees. Must participate effectively in a team concept. Walking and standing most of the time. Lifting of patients with assistance.

Responsible to : Vice President of Clinical Services.

Workers Supervised : Nurses and ancillary nursing personnel assigned to the unit.

Interrelationships : Works with nursing personnel on all other nursing units, medical staff, department directors, patients and their families and the general public.
