The Director will be responsible for: a) leading UMKC’s translational research agenda; b) promoting clinical translational research initiatives among all UMKC research sectors; c) establishing partnerships with other members at life and health sciences institutions within the Kansas City area; d) assisting faculty to expand clinical practice initiatives and research opportunities; e) enhancing collaborative and trans-disciplinary research. The Director will also be responsible for garnering resources for faculty to maintain an active program of scholarship and funded research, mentoring junior faculty to become independent, extramurally-funded scholars, and advancing UMKC’s strategic plans for research. This individual will supervise a support staff that supports the Center. Maintenance and growth of the Director’s own research Agenda is strongly supported.
Required qualifications include:
- MD, PhD or equivalent doctoral degree
- Record of an extensive, on-going funded program of research
- Record of quality research, teaching and service appropriate to the rank of tenured Full Professor
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A national and international reputation in their field of research
- Experience in collaborative teaching and research
- Established ability to mentor faculty and doctoral students
