Position Summary:

The Director International Mobility leads the North American International Administration department and is responsible for ensuring the development and administration of a world class International Mobility program. The scope of the role includes inbound and outbound North American expatriates, and Canada / US cross-border transferees. The department is co-located with the PSC, and several key business processes are co-dependent on PSC processes, so close collaboration by the team and the incumbent with the PSC are critical. The program is part of the Lafarge Group’s global international mobility program, thus close alignment and productive relationships with the CBIM department is essential. This is a leadership role, overseeing the NA International Assignment Services team. The key outcomes of this role will include: continuing technical development of the team in international HR and payroll; effective process and internal controls; effective cost management and reporting; high performing vendor relationships; availability of internal expert consulting advice to Business Units; expatriates and cross-border transferees with high confidence in Lafarge’s program.

Key Responsibilities Results/Accountabilities
  • Promote a safety-first culture in the International Mobility / Administration team
  • Supervise International Administration team leads and team
  • Manage cross-border and international assignment programs affecting NA employees.
  • Manage tax compliance & services programs
  • International Administration cost optimization including tax considerations
  • Develop appropriate policies and provide policy clarification for team, expatriates and HR managers
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with HR managers, PSC, and Group CBIM teams
  • Ensure exchange of appropriate tools and best practices with the Group
  • Contribute to Group projects as appropriate
  • Manage and select appropriate vendors
  • Ensure Internal Controls are established and maintained
  • Ensure safety policies are adhered to and maintain zero injury environment
  • Timely and accurate preparation of offer letters, tax filings, and payroll administration
  • Effective cost optimization of expatriate and cross-border management
  • Predictive forecasting of future costs
  • Effective utilization and optimization of external vendors
  • Internal Controls established and managed appropriately
  • Continuous development of skill set of the team
Relationships with Others’ Jobs:
  • Collaborates with PSC to maintain communications, ensure processes are compatible with PSC processes, contributes to positive work environment in PSC Southfield
  • Effectively partners with BU HR staff to support mobility needs, and provide expertise as required. Ensures BU HR management are educated on, and in compliance with defined processes.
  • Collaborates and gains alignment with Group CBIM team
  • Uses outside vendors appropriately

Qualification Profile:

Education and Work Experience:
  • 10 years of business experience in global business environment
  • Relevant work and business experience in a foreign country
  • Experience in international assignment management
  • Understanding of US and Canadian tax matters
  • Experience in international compensation and benefits issues
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, HR, Finance, or other area relevant to managing an international HR program
  • Experience in Group Headquarters HR an asset
