Normal Work Schedule

9:00 - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday. Business travel required as needed.


Digital First Media is recruiting for a Director of Business Development based in Denver, CO. The Director will be a key member of the team, working closely with various stakeholder groups, including, but not limited to: Product (inclusive of Mobile and Social), Editorial, Development, Sales and Finance. The ideal candidate will be negotiating long-term, mutually beneficial business partnerships that drive strategic revenue, audience and cost savings metrics. S/he will conduct business with transparency, integrity and accountability at all times to exhibit a nuanced negotiated skill so internal and external parties truly feel like business partners. Further, while this position is on the publisher/ supply-side of media, this position will benefit with experience brought from the advertiser/ demand-side or the technology platform areas of the digital media ecosystem.


Participate in all aspects of negotiation (market landscape analysis and partner selection, forecasting, contract drafting, re-negotiation and amendments)

Represent business development across the company and to the field of >200 media brands throughout the U.S.

Manage and evaluate business opportunities from internal stakeholder groups and respond to external inquiries

Manage expense side of business partnerships in close collaboration with Finance teams

Communicate market trends and emerging media opportunities to all parties

Lead by example

Required experience and knowledge

Demonstrated success in managing complex negotiations for long-term mutual success

Demonstrated success in new business development

Technology platform and/ or content background preferred

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong analytical aptitude and ability to manage and apply data schemas

Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams in a positive way, with strong follow up skills being essential

Business Skills:
Demonstrated ability to work independently and handle multiple assignments concurrently through effective prioritization and setting clear direction and expectations

Requires the ability to provide clear direction in complex environments

Good organization skills and excellent written and oral communication skills are required


Work with executive stakeholders to formalize requirements

Ability to multi-task and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

Demonstrate leadership and ability to work cross functionally


The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:

Up to 25% Travel

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light weights of 10 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

Must be able to attend the work location during normal business hours and be on-site to engage in personal interaction with others and as part of a team.

Occasional, moderate job stress due to deadlines and number of escalated issues from off-site locations.


Position requires someone capable of developing and maintaining positive, productive working relationships with team members and management by actively listening to their ideas, issues and concerns with a positive attitude.


The minimum education preferred to be considered for this position is:

A relevant Bachelor’s degree plus at least 8-10 years experience driving business development partnerships in digital media and technology.

The minimum number of Years and/or Months of Prior and Related experience preferred to be considered for this position is:

Minimum 8-10 years successful business development experience.
