Position Purpose:

Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer , directs all aspects of the Facility services, Clinical Engineering department, Environmental Services and Linen services for facilities assigned . Responsible for all aspects of the physical plant and facility equipment. The incumbent will oversee all preventive and demand maintenance of clinical and plant equipment calibration. Responsible for assuring that adequate training of staff occurs to effectively perform in their roles. This position is responsible for assuring equipment integration throughout Renown Health and maximizing resource management.

Nature and Scope:

This position is challenged to manage the installation, replacement, daily operations and maintenance of highly sophisticated equipment and systems in the rapidly changing field of Plant Operations and Clinical Engineering. This position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the Utility Systems Management Plan, the Life Safety Management Plan, as well as the Medical Equipment Management Plan to comply with Life Safety and Joint Commission requirements and will report such plans to the Environment of Care committee.

This position is responsible for the creation and monitoring of Operational and Capital budgets for RRMC Plant Operation; Rehab Plant Operations; Skilled Nursing Plant Operations and EVS/Linen; RSMMC Plant Operations, EVS and Linen. Also responsible for Financial reports, Budget Analysis and Projections for the above mentioned departments.

This position is responsible for developing programs under Environmental Services and Linen Management programs to ensure the quality of the environment, compliance with Infection Control Guidelines and meeting the needs of the patients and staff.

This position will develop and implement an energy utilization strategy.

This position will provide timely operational updates and long-range utility planning to the Vice President of Ancillary and Support Services.

This position will coordinate the energy management initiatives.

This position advises department heads, unit managers, directors, and administrators of departments utilizing both plant and medical equipment.

The incumbent negotiates with, consults with, and advises external contacts including medical staff, outside clients and vendors of equipment.

The incumbent has the authority to establish priorities for cleaning schedules; linen distribution; preventive maintenance and repair of equipment; new equipment and systems installations; determine levels of inventory; schedule and conduct in-services; and to approve service contracts.

The incumbent trains medical staff including nurses and therapists regarding the use of required plant equipment.

The incumbent is often required to perform other related duties and work beyond a normal day.

The incumbent has the authority to hire, counsel, and discipline subordinates.


1. Knowledge of Renown Health and departmental policies and procedures.

3. Thorough knowledge of NFPA, JCAHO, AHA, and FDA regulations as pertaining to medical equipment and systems in health care facilities.

4. Knowledge of building codes and regulations as affecting installation of these systems and components.

5. Problem solving skills to handle unusual occurrences involving equipment related problems.

6. Performance consistent with the Corporate Culture Statements of Renown Health.

7. Goal oriented with strong emphasis on intra-department cooperation with other directors and managers.

8. Total dedication to safety for patients and staff through an effective, documented preventive maintenance program.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred


Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required.


System maintenance and operation experience comes from supervising or managing physical plant operations or maintenance or testing programs or departments, or project management experience in design and construction of the building systems is also applicable.

Strong supervisory experience with heavy emphasis on personnel management is required.

Minimum of three years management experience.


Professional Registry preferred.


Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
