Director of Finance
The University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications invites applications for a Director of Finance. The Director of Finance at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism & Communications is a key member of the senior management team and the primary steward of the College’s financial resources and budget process. As a direct report to the Dean of the College, the Director will oversee the College’s business office functions with a goal of improving budgeting, forecasting and fiscal planning in support of the Dean and the College’s leadership team.
Required Qualifications: The candidate must have a Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience. The Director must have experience successfully supervising others in a financial environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Certified Public Accountant or an advanced degree in Finance or Accounting, and background in a media-oriented organization leading the accounting and finance functions successfully for a minimum of 10 years and 5 years of leadership experience and oversight of a finance or business department of an organization. Leadership is defined as serving in a role overseeing the financial (budgeting, forecasting, etc.) and accounting functions of a complex unit or entity with multiple budgets and personnel. Experience with public radio and television finances is also preferred but not required.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to provide the overall leadership and direction for the College. Responsible for the financial integrity of the College of Journalism & Communications. Maintains a system of accounts to provide monthly financial reports (Monthly P&L’s, Budget to Actual, Pro-forma forecasts, and provisions for reserves) to the Dean and College’s leadership team. Responsible for tracking/overseeing college-wide expenditures for departments/centers and CJC administration. Notifies the Dean of any related budgetary items that would directly affect university funding and/or increased costs. Oversees the preparation of the annual college-wide annual budget, including the review and analysis of RCM reporting. Assists divisions and departments with developing annual budget proposals.
Performs long-range strategic planning for financial and administrative affairs for academic units, media properties and other businesses managed by the College. Considers and addresses the financial and programmatic impacts of new initiatives as well as those associated with internal and external trends and changing regulations. Oversees development and management of Capital Plan.
