DESCRIPTION

OMSI, a NW icon for 60 years, is looking for a Director of Guest Engagement. We need an exceptionally bright, self aware individual with outstanding people skills. We need someone lead a vision of guest engagement within the within the museum, inspiring a sense of delight and discovery in everyday science with emphasis on, but not limited to, educational content. The ideal candidate will be someone who knows how to build connections within and outside the organization, impeccable project management skills, and is as comfortable forging innovative partnerships with leading Oregon organizations.

DUTIES

  • Supervise Museum Education Manager.
  • Develop and monitor division budgets, including new and ongoing grants.
  • Supervise staff and educational programming for museum and submarine camp-ins.
  • Actively collaborate and consult with other departments to create comprehensive vision for guest engagement.
  • Direct and promote internal communication of guest engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with K-12 schools, institutes of higher learning, business and community groups to promote Informal Science Education.
  • Direct educational content for guest engagement, including demonstrations and external presenters in the museum and at special events in collaboration with the Events and Museum Education teams.
  • Work closely with Program Sales to support the needs of schools, groups and Museum Education team.
  • Lead the creation and management of an annual calendar showcasing guest engagement activities within the museum.
  • Oversee collaboration with Volunteer Services to ensure demos and activities in the general operation of the halls and for special events
  • Lead planning, coordination, and implementation for Teen engagement across departments.
  • Support the Museum Education Manager in hiring and training of museum education staff, interns and work-study students
  • Coordinate with exhibits department for the development and implementation of master plans for halls and labs.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategies to enhance OMSI's ability to serve as a science resource, complement formal education, align with state and national standards, and meet the needs of teachers and school groups.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree in education, science, math, computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 4 years administrative experience, including budgets, grants, and staffing.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive program management, including staff supervision, multiple project management, and budget responsibility.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with the public, formal and informal settings.
  • Minimum 4 years of museum pedagogy and informal science education experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of informal experience in group management and group facilitation
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of non-traditional education theories.
