The purpose of this position is to plan, implement and deliver staff education and in-service programs in compliance with regulatory requirements and in response to the educational and developmental needs of staff.

Assess resident needs and develop and deliver staff training to ensure staff have the skills and abilities needed to provide safe, effective and compassionate resident care.

Plan, implement, direct and evaluate the facility's education program in compliance with federal, state and local regulations

Evaluate staff training needs and develop group and individual in-services to improve overall quality of care.

Organize, maintain and retrieve documentation related to staff development activities.

Required Skills

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Possess current license in good standing as a Registered Nurse issued by facility's State.

Minimum of 2 years experience as professional nurse in long term care setting.

Completion of a certified train-the-trainer program or post-secondary training in principles of adult learning, workplace education and training or combination of training and experience as a peer trainer.

Have a positive attitude toward the elderly.

Must be organized, self-directed and highly motivated with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.

Mastery of body mechanics and demonstrated ability to teach safe resident lifting, transferring and transport by demonstration.

Knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices and procedures and the laws, regulations and guidelines governing licensed long term care.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Highly effective written and oral communication skills. Must be able to use a computer to format and create spreadsheet and word processing documents sufficient to track compliance and analyze trends. Must be comfortable using and training using multiple media, including web-based in service training programs. Must be able to use multimedia equipment and create presentations in PowerPoint.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally. Finger, hand, visual and aural acuity required. Position requires frequent walking, standing, and sitting and some lifting, stretching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, grasping and reaching.

Required Experience

MDS experience required.
