Reporting to the Senior Vice President and General Manager of AAI Logistics and Technical Services (LTS), the Director of Training Systems and Services will manage AAI LTS interests in the Training and Simulation marketplace. AAI LTS interests include the development of new training systems, the sustainment of existing training systems, and the development anmaintenance of existing courseware and instructional systems.

The Director of Training Systems and Services responsibilities include


  • Working with AAI LTS Business Development to identify, track and pursue new business opportunities
  • Managing profit and loss across all programs
  • Setting strategic goals and directing the organization to achieve those goals
  • Managing a number of program managers and functional personnel
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with our customers senior leadership
  • Managing a geographically distributed business with personnel on site in Hunt Valley MD, Goose Creek SC, and distributed across more than 30 CONUS and OCONUS customer sites
  • Managing a workforce that includes union and non-union employees
  • A continuous focus on business growth
  • Participating in formulating the annual operating plan and establishing objectives for the business
  • Reviewing and directing the performance of program functional task elements such as engineering, procurement, manufacturing, quality control, logistics, and administrative functions.
  • Participating and providing guidance to capture teams
  • Mentoring junior personnel
  • Leading local process improvement initiatives and participating in corporate process improvement initiatives
  • Reviewing and reporting financial condition of all programs in the business area of responsibility. Directing corrective action when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • DoD Program Management
  • Understanding the hardware and software technologies seen within the Training and Simulation marketplace
  • Able to operate following internal process, procedures and work instructions
  • Ability to lead and motivate employees
  • Excellent leadership and team building skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to direct a workforce to meet specific business goals
  • Ability to support travel up to 25%
  • Program Management experience and certification. Either DAWIA Level 3, Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional or equivalent certification
  • Experience and understanding of the systems engineering process used to develop products
  • An understanding of the Systems Engineering process and Training Needs Analysis process

  • Knowledge of export compliance and doing international business

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least ten years of related leadership and program management experience
  • A track record of leading complex development projects preferably for DoD customers
  • Proven ability to brief senior government and industry leaders.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a government secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in training systems either through industry or military service
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
