The University of Masschusetts Amherst is looking for a new Director of the UMass Amherst-Springfield Partnership. The director will serve as a liaison for the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMA) in Greater Springfield and the surrounding areas and urban centers. The director will be responsible for increasing the presence of UMA in the city and for expanding and realizing opportunities for engagement and collaboration between the city and the campus.
Demonstrates: integrity, confidence, enthusiasm, initiative, analytical ability, the capacity to inspire cooperation, understanding of the vital importance of public higher education, a sense of humor and understanding of the breadth and complexity of a major research university.
Proven skills: excellent written and verbal communication abilities, leadership, administrative skills, and team player.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, communications, political science, or related field required; Proven record of managing a wide range of projects to successful completion; More than five (5) years of experience working with leaders from the public, private and civic sectors in an urban municipality; Exceptional management and interpersonal abilities, along with proven administrative, written and verbal communication skills; More than five (5) years of experience working on issues of economic development in an urban economy; Ability to effectively express the university’s position on a variety of issues; Excellent persuasive skills; Ability to exercise judgment and leadership when discussing the campus to external constituencies; Previous experience working with senior level executives; Ability to exercise sound judgment and work effectively under multiple pressures; Demonstrated ability to work with multiple constituencies, both internal and external to an organization.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree; Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity of the Pioneer Valley region and its economic and political landscape; Experience in higher education; Preferred understanding of the role that research universities play in a regional economy.
Hiring salary range: $53,300 - $67,500; normal starting salary range: $53,300 - $60,400.*
(*For exceptional candidates, consideration may be given for a salary offer up to $75,000.)
