Position Summary:
Provides financial leadership, direction and support for the Research and Development organization. Ensures that operational and planning decisions within this function are consistent with Corporate guidelines and make sound economic sense. Facilitates effective communication between the R&D area and other Corporate entities on all financial matters to ensure that decisions are made in a timely and cost-effective manner. Trains R&D personnel on managing their business from a general management perspective, assessing the P&L impacts of investment and project decisions. Lead coordination and development of annual and strategic financial plans for R&D.

Financial Reporting & Analysis - Provides leadership, direction and support for Research & Development organization. Provides financial analysis supporting investment and benefits with respect to innovation and R&D initiatives. Trains business unit personnel on managing their business from a general management perspective, assessing the impacts of P&L decisions. Identify variances and drivers of actual performance vs. budget.

New Business Opportunities/Projects - Work with R&D groups to determine financial rationale for projects being proposed. Participate in cross-functional team to evaluate and decide on new projects and return commitments.

Plan & Outlook Support - Leads development of annual financial plan and periodic outlook requests. Provides support in planning /outlooking cost center administrative expenses. Ensures that plans /forecasts are consistent with Corporate guidelines.

Operational Analyses - Supports financial and economic analysis projects for the R&D organization with the goal of improving operational efficiencies and understanding P&L impact of decisions. Serves as financial representative for the R&D organization on any key initiatives as they develop.

Training - Provides consultation to R&D personnel on the financial ramifications of proposed projects and activities. Provides instruction on how to utilize analytical tools at their disposal, and how to interpret the results that they receive. Continues to educate R&D personnel on financial concepts and how they can more effectively manage their areas.

B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field required

MBA strongly preferred

CMA or CPA preferred

Minimum 12 years accounting experience, including financial accounting, cost accounting, and budgeting, including 4-6 years of supervisory experience.

SAP experience strongly preferred. Other ERP experience will be considered

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with Hershey Senior Management and KPMG
