Netflix, the world’s leading programmer of television and movies online, seeks a Director of Public Policy to assist in managing the company’s relationship with government officials. The successful candidate will be located in Washington, D.C. The primary area of focus for the successful candidate will be working with governments throughout Latin America, particularly Brazil. Major areas of focus will include but not be limited to:
- Internet Access/Net Neutrality
- Taxation of Internet-delivered Services
- E-Commerce Issues
- Privacy and Data Security
- Consumer Protection
- Financial Services
- Patent and Copyright
Reporting to the Head of Global Public Policy this person will provide support to the DC office and the overall success and growth of the company. The successful candidate will work with the legal team to execute the Company’s public policy objectives. This role will involve managing advocacy projects, research and writing of policy briefs and monitoring various legislative and rulemaking initiatives. The position will also share administrative responsibilities with other members of the Netflix public policy team. The individual will be expected to perform duties which would require registration as a federal lobbyist in the US or in Latin America.
The Netflix legal and public policy team is a small group of highly talented and experienced individuals who work closely with their business counterparts to advance the strategic goals of the company. The team is perceived within the Company as solutions-oriented and as a welcome part of the Company’s business team.
The successful candidate will have up to 10 years of policy or government relations experience, either working with a company, government, trade association or similar employer. Experience and knowledge of Internet and technology issues preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent writing and researching skills, speak and write Portuguese, be highly organized and solution-oriented.
