**The Black Belt Research and Extension Center is seeking candidates for the position of Director, Research/Extension Center located in Marion Junction, Alabama.** This position provides professional management to the operation of a research/extension farm and facilities that includes crop and animal management. Management includes full supervisory authority of personnel, day to day operation of the unit, and budget management. The position will interact with administration, faculty researchers, extension personnel, local interest and stakeholder groups, Department Heads, and other Directors in the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station. Essential functions will include, but are not limited to: development in the planning and design of research, provide technical expertise, and coordinate activities for research programs; direct and coordinate assigned labor force to include training and developing work schedules; supervise the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment; perform routine animal husbandry practices; ensure IACUC protocols are followed and AAALAC certification maintained; record and maintain research data; assume budget responsibility; and interact with a wide variety of individuals and groups for tours, seminars and presentations.
The minimum qualifications are a Master's degree from an accredited institution in Management, Business, Agricultural Business or related field and five years of experience in agricultural operations and/or agricultural research. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education. Knowledge of program and/or research area related to position, research design and implementation, and accounting principles and practices are required. Previous supervisory experience, excellent interpersonal skills, written communication skills, and demonstrated technical expertise are essential. Ability to work and lead in a team environment is required. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Desired qualifications include previous experience in farm operations, knowledge and experience in beef production systems, knowledge and experience in maintenance and repair of equipment, knowledge and experience with IACUC protocols of animal operations, knowledge and experience with field research/animal research, and an advanced degree from an accredited institution in a production agriculture related field.
