Applications are capturing users and developers imagination resulting in new consumer experiences across a plethora of devices. HTML 5 is opening up incredible opportunities to re-define what the advertising experience will be. Consumer attention is quickly shifting to their on the go surface areas - their tablets and mobile phones. The way that publishers, developers, and marketers serve the needs of consumers is moving at an extremely fast pace, with multi-faceted opportunities and challenges that shift daily.
As we chart new territory with advertising on applications - we are looking for a leader that can balance re-defining what a consumer centered marketing experience across their digital world looks like, what business models make sense in this new world, and what’s the right way to bring together the power of Microsoft’s assets in the tablet and phone space w/the fast-paced change happening in the industry. This leader will be responsible for leading the business teams that will create and manage an advertising ecosystem that will:
Re-define (in partnership with our engineering teams) the consumer experience of advertising in the tablet and mobile space - including design of experiences, how they experience advertising across their entire digital journey and models to put their goals, preferences and choice at the center of every experience they have.
Build business models against this experience that enable developers to build a sustainable business and advertisers to communicate with their audience in innovative and scalable ways.
Collaborate across the broader Advertising BG and engineering teams, plus partners across the company to bring the best of our consumer experiences (across MSN, Windows, Xbox, Bing, Windows Live etc) to life in the tablet and Mobile ecosystem.

The successful candidate has a deep, practical understanding of building new businesses - with particular strength in design and user experience, creating business models, and moving from hypothesis, to plan, to landing the plan w/clear execution. Experience in the digital industry and brand advertising in particular is a plus. She or he must be a highly-motivated self-starter with a successful track record of developing and landing business plans and buy/build/partner recommendations with senior executives, partner teams and peers; have superior people management, project management, communication and analytical skills; and a personal persuasiveness that enables her or him to impact key executive decisions.
She or he is motivated by thought leadership and impact -- and wants to be part of an organization where the decisions we make, and the scale of the investments we undertake, have the potential to change the face of digital advertising.
The successful candidate also has a strong passion for technology and brings a unique combination of demonstrated skills in:
§ Creating structure and definition around uncertain, complex and/or ambiguous business problems
§ Design experience and/or directing user experience professionals to create innovative, new product interfaces
§ Leading teams through a start-up approach and enabling them to build concrete approaches to business problems in times of ambiguity
§ Collaborating and driving to outcomes across multi-disciplinary teams
§ Make buy/build/partner recommendations, work with business development to create negotiation strategies and deal structures, and participate in negotiations
§ Scaling businesses to a broad global environment
§ Qualitative and quantitative analysis to support decision making
§ Competitive analysis / game theory
§ Oral and written communication
He or she also has:
§ A minimum of 7-10 years of demonstrated post-college work experience in user experience, product management, strategy or new product commercialization at an online media or high tech company, top-tier consulting firm, and/or traditional media company.
§ A BS/BA degree
§ MBA; study in design and UX, marketing, or engineering; and relevant advertising industry experience preferred.
