Role Purpose
The Director will work as Project Manager with manufactures, sports production personnel, vendors, system consultants, Olympic Host Broadcaster, and NBC personnel, to help them understand and deliver our requirements for meeting the project’s goals.

Job Scope
The Project Manager for Sound Design and Communication Systems, primary responsibility, is to insure that the audio component of a production is of a high and intelligible quality, and is in compliance with published standards & practices. This position will also be responsible for researching new hardware, software and IT-based audio broadcast and communications equipment. This would include working with manufactures to develop new equipment and systems, or modifying existing products to fulfill NBC Sports Production requirements.

  • Oversees the design and development of the overall audio and production communications engineering plan for the IBC and all NBC Olympic venues. This includes defining design specifications, performance criteria and functional/operational specifications.
  • Encompasses NBC Olympics IBC audio control rooms, announce booths, editing room audio facilities, RF audio facilities, IP-based commentary systems and communication systems.
  • NBC Olympics Venue audio mixing facilities, venue natural sound effects, compound distribution, internal venue communications, communication systems to NBC’s IBC facility, venue editing audio facilities and the interface to the host broadcaster for audio splits and sub-mixes.
  • IBC and Venue Transmission and recording audio tracking assignments
  • Working with System integrators, to design and document audio and communication plans, to assure compliance with project goals
  • Provides direct supervision of project implementation, for IBC, Venue and other assigned areas, which includes, the installation, commissioning and testing of audio systems and equipment.
  • Developing and verifying proof of performance and operational training procedures for any new audio equipment and systems.
  • Developing and monitoring project budgets for assigned areas and generates a project schedule for areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinating design and installation schedules with other Olympic technical departments.
  • Assisting Operations and Production groups, in identifying and training, qualified audio production personnel for Olympics and Sports Productions.
  • Preparing written descriptions, procedures and drawings, of IBC and Venue audio system, for distribution to Production, Technical and Operational staffs.
  • Regular status reports on project status and goals.

    Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum ten (10) years operational experience with remote sports broadcasts.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experienced with and extensive knowledge of current Surround (5.1) audio systems, with coincident work on future audio technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required. Must work well under pressure in highly dynamic situations
  • Experience with remote television broadcasting, large scale audio system design, implementation and project management.
  • Familiar with PC/Mac computer platforms, standard office software products, and audio mixing software. AutoCAD literacy a plus.
  • Experience with management of contract employees during the systems installation/checkout phase and maintenance of systems, during the games.
  • This position will also involve systems training for both operations and engineering personnel.
  • Domestic and international travel required and must be willing to live in the host city for 3-4 months during the Olympic Games operational period.
