Position: Disaster Recovery & Community Development Position #: CE13003
Department: Community & Environmental Reports to: Community & Environmental
Summary of Position:
Plays key role in the development and implementation of regional initiatives that promote holistic community development by focusing on sustainability, resiliency, and hazard mitigation. Assist in technical assistance workshops, webinars, and projects that integrate housing, infrastructure and economy into local planning efforts. Supports disaster recovery efforts funded and coordinated through H-GAC. Provide excellent customer service to multiple local governments from large cities to rural counties and small towns – and private citizens seeking assistance through H-GAC programs.
Supervised by Economic Development Program Manager. Reports to Director of Community & Environmental Planning.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Supports Disaster Recovery Housing Program
Provide technical support for the fair housing element of the Regional Plan for Sustainable Development.
Assist with development and implementation of the rapid housing recovery pilot program.
Assist in the periodic update of the regional comprehensive economic development strategy.
Coordinates technical assistance sessions with local governments.
Develops and maintains project milestone and completion schedules.
Researches and analyzes data on local, state and federal housing, disaster recovery, sustainability, hazard mitigation, economic development, and community development programs.
Reviews and analyzes state and federal guidance.
Writes program summaries, plans, and briefing materials for H-GAC management.
Helps maintain compliance with funding requirements.
Provides outreach to groups and individuals on Disaster Recovery program.
General administrative duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to thrive in a team environment and manage a heavy workload is a must. Position requires strong writing, public speaking and organizational skills. Familiarity with state and federal programs (i.e., Community Development Block Grants, FEMA, USDA, and HUD) preferred. Knowledge of disaster recovery housing and infrastructure, and hazard mitigation planning a plus.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING :
Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Business, Political Science, Communications or closely related field. Three years of related experience in government or private sector is desired. (Advanced degree may count for up to two years of experience).
PAY GROUP :
Professional III, Level 7 ($51,648 - $82,802)
