Through the 8-week development program, you will learn the role of the planning organization, which will lay a solid foundation for your career at Macy's. During the course of the program, we will teach you skills necessary to deliver sales, margin, and stock turnover results through rigorous analysis of the business and identification of localization opportunities by store. You will learn how to communicate assortment-related actions to the central planning organization.
Following the 8-week program, you will be placed with a Regional Planning Manager to hone your business and leadership skills based on your development plan. Upon placement as a district planner (dependent on positional availability and your readiness), you will have direct responsibility for a family of business within a district that includes approximately 10 stores.
What you will have the opportunity to do:
Conduct in-depth weekly review of the business by store and recommend actions to drive sales
Visit stores minimum 2 days a week with District Merchant partner to evaluate and analyze opportunities to drive sales
Identify sales and profits improvement opportunities through rigorous analysis of reports and customer logs; develop action plans to address
Provide feedback on action items from previous store visits and implement action to address issues and effect change during each visit
Be prepared to present strategies and opportunities to all levels of management
Provide input on local marketing for stores within district
Participate in seasonal strategy meetings
Recommend assortment/allocation changes to central planning organization
What to bring to the program:
Bachelor's degree with solid academic record, all majors welcomed
Minimum 4 years experience in retail buying and/or planning required
Sales driven, passionate, and committed to excellence and high standards
Proven experience consistently delivering on financial targets
Readily grasps numerical concepts and interprets financial information accurately
Seeks to be the leader, wants to be in a position of influence
Result-oriented with a strong sense of urgency
Demonstrates strong listening, written and oral communication skills
Communicates purposefully and takes charge of situations; excellent presentation/platform skills
Curious about complex issues or opportunities- ability to view things in new ways or from a different perspective
Able to independently organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
Achieves results with little supervision
Flexibility to travel and visit minimum two stores within district weekly
Advanced Excel skills
