Drama Teacher – Middle School

Long Term Substitute Position (1.0 FTE)

Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a Middle School Drama Teacher to finish out the 2012-13 academic school year. This 1.0 FTE position will begin immediately and continue through late June 2013.


The drama teacher will join the Middle School arts department that consists of performing and visual arts faculty members; he or she will also collaborate with a team of theater arts educators who work in both divisions. Specific responsibilities for this position include:
  • Teach three sections of 8 th grade improv/drama and two sections of 6 th grade drama to middle school students in drama classes;
  • Provide support for students outside of class time as needed;

Requirements and Qualifications

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in theater arts or equivalent years of experience. Middle-school (grades 4–9) drama teaching experience is preferable, but not essential, as is a demonstrated understanding of and appreciation for young adolescents. The candidate must be able to work with students who vary in ability and learning styles, and have experience instructing diverse populations of students. Ideally, candidates will have experience developing drama curriculum and directing performances at the middle-school level. References should address the candidate's ability to instruct successfully a wide range of students and to work with other adults in a high functioning, collaborative, and innovative educational setting. Additionally, the successful candidate must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.
