Applicant must be at least 23 years old.
Applicant must have 1 year verifiable over the road driving experience or be a successful graduate from an approved truck driving school.
Must possess a valid CDL with tank and Hazardous Materials Endorsements.
No DWI, reckless driving, or hit and run convictions in the past 5 years.
ALL felony convictions must be reviewed by Human Resources.
No “at fault” accidents causing personal injury or property damage in the past 3 years.
No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years.
No more than 3 jobs in past 2 years.
Must have legal right to work in US.
Must have reliable telephone number to be contacted.
Must pass DOT pre-employment drug screen and possess a current DOT physical certification.
Must present good attitude and appearance at all times.
Applicant must understand and speak English.
Must comply with all standards set forth by the local, state and federal laws, including all standards in the Pope Driver Handbook.
TRUCK DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION
Pope Transport Drivers are responsible for operating Company owned and leased vehicles safely while delivering products to customer sites, and loading and unloading products on trucks. Drivers must operate vehicle safely and in compliance with traffic laws and report any malfunction of equipment. Drivers must obtain signatures on delivery tickets when possible. Drivers are required to follow scheduling and routing of deliveries and make deliveries on time as scheduled. Driver must follow proper procedures in reporting any accidents or spills.
A DRIVER MUST:
Consent to and pass pre-employment/random/reasonable cause and post-accident drug and/or alcohol screens.
Take and pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements.
Take and pass DOT required, driving, and eye tests.
Be able to perform pre/post-trip inspections.
Meet minimum DOT age requirements.
Adhere to all applicable state and federal laws including, but not limited to the DOT and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Operate Pope combination units including coupling and uncoupling trailers, fueling tractors, testing tire pressure, draining air tanks.
Climb transport ladders and walk top platform of trailer to check compartments for fuel retained.
Perform required paperwork including, but not limited to, Pope delivery tickets, relative fuel reports, DOT logs, and other shipper/delivery reports.
Safely load and unload trailer to include coupling and uncoupling twenty foot long four inch wide hoses. This includes top and bottom loading and pump-offs/pump-outs.
Act responsibly and according to Company policy regarding spills and/or product contamination. Follow all Company policies (written or verbal) as directed by Company Handbook, Dispatchers, or other members of Management.
Be able to bend in order to pull up a metal plate weighing 25 pounds and to connect a gasoline fitting to an above/underground storage tank.
Be able to use proper lifting techniques to connect or disconnect fittings or hoses to an above/underground storage tank consisting of units weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to read, write and speak English, including the ability to hear the spoken word.
Must be able to tolerate exposure to gasoline vapors.
Be able to withstand extreme temperature ranging from 0 degrees to 100 degrees F.
Have a working phone number to be contacted.
Protect Company assets at all times.
Keep customer and Company information confidential at all times.
Take and record stick readings and water readings.
Obtain 24 hour loading authority at enough terminals to be utilized as a night and/or weekend driver.
Present good personal appearance and good attitude to the public and our customers.
Give service promptly (on time) and courteously to all customers.
Have acceptable driving record to satisfy Pope's insurance carrier requirements.
Comply with training requirements and handle hazardous materials in a safe manner.
Keep inside of tractor clean so as to safely operate the vehicle and display a clean image.
Be able to react to a fire by lifting a fire extinguisher weighing at least 25 pounds and properly using it in the fire area.
Meet attendance standards, be trustworthy, use sound judgment, be safety conscious and service-oriented.
Must be able to obtain and retain loading privileges at various loading terminals
