Major Objectives Complete chipped tie hauls as assigned in a safe and efficient manner to meet exceed customer expectations. May be assigned other duties to assist unit in meeting customers and/or company standards. Supporting Objectives Daily the driver reports to the operation as scheduled. The driver performs pre-trip inspection and completes form. Ensures that the truck meets or exceeds safe operational standards. The driver reports to his designated haul and completes hauls as assigned by site supervisor and or operations manager. After completing his/her hauls the driver returns to the yard, fuels and cleans the truck, performs post inspection, then completes and turns in paperwork. Must have the ability to travel 25% of the year to different locations. Responsibilities Driver is responsible for the condition of the truck, trailers and/or other equipment assigned to him/her. Return equipment in the same condition it was when assigned. Report equipment damage or deficiencies immediately. Interfaces Drivers are supervised by a supervisor and operations manager The supervisor will instruct the driver as to the job specifications of each haul. In case of an emergency or accident, the driver will contact the supervisor or operations manager immediately. Skills and Abilities Preferably two years experience driving tractor/trailer combination Current CDL license Demonstration of driving skills including lane changing, backing up, hooking up trailers, attention to all potential hazards. No more than 2 moving violations in the last three years. No DUI, or any of the other following moving violations in a CMV: hit and run, failure to report an accident, negligent homicide, operating a CMV during a suspension or revocation, grand theft of CMV, reckless driving, speed contest, or permitting an unauthorized person to drive a company vehicle. Driving record acceptable to Savage Work rotating shifts and weekends Maintain a good attendance record Perform pre and post trip inspections Complete loads as dispatched Attend communication meetings and safety training as scheduled Complete required paperwork, i.e., manifests, driver logs, recaps, accident reports, and basic knowledge of DOT regulations. Pass drug / alcohol test Physical and Environmental Issues Ability to climb into and out of cab 20 or more times per shift Ability to change or chain-up a flat tire Ability to apply snow chains to tires Ability to climb a ladder 10 or more times a day Ability to lift 50 or more pounds multiple times per day. Ability to drive and work in winter conditions Ability to be on work sites where products are produced Ability to bend down and check to ensure end gates are closed Attributes Professional (concerned about safety and quality of job performance) Cooperative (able to follow directions and change schedule) Reliable (ability to work as dispatched) Language skills (ability to speak and understand English in simple conversation)
