EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

EXPERIENCE: 3 years of recent acute care nursing experience

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of current Texas State license for Registered Nurse. BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network. Passes the InterQual Interrater Reliability (IRR) test within 1 year of date of hire or transfer to position and yearly thereafter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have eye/hand/foot coordination, finger/fine dexterity and be able to handle/grip/squeeze and perform repetitive activity. Must be capable of transferring-vertical/horizontal, lifting/carrying 20 pounds and be able to push/pull, climb, stoop/bend, kneel, walk, sit, stand, hold, and reach.

SUMMARY: Under general direction, integrates cost, quality and utilization to facilitate the inpatient admission, observation and discharge of the patient by combining the objectives of established clinical pathways and utilization management standards. The overall goal of the position is to promote continuity of care, cost effectiveness through the integration and functions of case management and utilization of resources. Has accountability for the insurance requirements for all observation and inpatient admissions. Actively manages the length of stay in the clinical decision units. Performs discharge arrangements in the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) for routine Durable Medical Equipment (DME), homecare and skilled nursing placements.
